STANDARDS OF PRACTICE

 

The American Medical Technologists seeks to encourage, establish, and maintain the highest standards, traditions and principles of the practices which constitute the professions of the Registry.

Members of the Registry must recognize their responsibilities, not only to their patients, but also to society, to other health care professionals and to themselves.

The following Standards of Practice are principles adopted by the Board of Directors which define the essence of honorable and ethical behavior for a health care professional.

engaged in the Arts and Sciences which constitute the practice of their profession, AMT professionals shall be dedicated to the provision of competent service.

II. The AMT professional shall place the welfare of the patient above all else.

111. The AMT professional understands the importance of thoroughness in the performance of duty, compassion with patients, and the importance of the tasks which they may perform.

IV. The AMT professional shall always seek to respect the rights of patients and of fellow health care providers, and shall safeguard patient confidences.

V AMT professionals will strive to increase their technical knowledge, shall continue to study, and shall continue to apply scientific advances in their specialty.

VI. The AMT professional shall respect the law and will pledge to avoid dishonest, unethical or illegal practices.

VII. AMT professionals understand that they are not to make or offer a diagnosis or interpretation unless they are duly licensed physic ians/dentists or unless asked by the attending physician/dentist.

Vill. The AMT professional shall protect and value the judgment of the attending physician or dentist, providing this does not conflict with the behavior necessary to carry out Standard Number 11 above.

IX AMT professionals recognize that any personal wrongdoing is their responsibility. It is also the professional health care provider's obligation to report to the proper authorities any knowledge of professional abuse.

X The AMT professional pledges personal honor and integrity to cooperate in the advancement and expansion, by every lawful means, of the American Medical Technologists.
