Abstract

Article outlines the efforts of the nanoScience and Technology Studies program at the University of South Carolina that sees to promote interdisciplinary discussion about the social and ethical implications of nanotechnology through its programs and courses. Article also discusses the South Carolina Citizen School of Nanotechnology, which brought experts and non-experts together for a series of discussions about the scientific, social, and humanistic issues of nanotechnology research and development. Authors also discuss similar initiatives at other universities and some of the drawbacks and advantages of these programs.
