Abstract

In response to the European Commission's report Towards a European Strategy for Nanotechnology, Nanoforum.org conducted a survey to assess the wider response to the Commission's proposed strategy and to provide input to shape future European initiatives. The survey found that the majority of respondents agreed that nanotechnology will have a strong impact on European industry and European citizens, with the greatest influence in chemistry and materials, biotechnology, communication technologies, and health care. About 75% of respondents agreed that Europe must take into account the possible risks and societal impact of nanotechnologies, and the majority emphasized the importance of establishing a dialogue between stakeholders.
