Abstract

This article, written by the Board of Governors of INSCxexchange, a group elected to represent the nanotechnology and global securities and commodity industry responds to a call recently made by members of the European Union Environment Committee as they voted on amendments to the Restriction of hazardous Substances Directive. The response explains the function of INSCX Exchange, and the group's endorsement of continuing research in the area of environmental and health aspects of nanotechnology and the need for the thoughtful development of a regulation strategy based on permitted us, clearly defined materials, and characterization standards and transparency in trade. The article goes on to list a number of proposals they have, including self-regulation, the right to contest pieces of legislation industry representatives see as too restrictive, and a series of other proposed amendments to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive.
