Approaches to Safe Nanotechnology: Managing the Health and Safety Concerns Associated with Engineered Nanomaterials

Newly updated in March 2009, this document reviews what is currently known about nanoparticle toxicity and control, and the results of current research being done at the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The document includes an expanded section on risk management, with a detailed discussion of factors that may affect occupational exposure to engineered nanomaterials, and recommendations for controlling work-related exposures. It also includes a discussion of exposure assessment and characterization of engineered nanoparticles, as well as a summary table of instrument and measurement methods used in the evaluation of Nanomaterial exposures.
