Risk-based classification system of nanomaterials

This article proposes the creation of a risk classification scheme for nanomaterials that would help guide scientists and engineers in nanomaterial research and promote the safe handling and use of these materials. The authors base their system on a set of performance metrics that measure both the toxicity and physico-chemical characteristics of the original materials, and take into account environmental impacts throughout the nanomaterial's life cycle.
