Abstract

Report of a public engagement experiment done as part of the Nanodialogues project. Working with DEMOS, the United Kingdom’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council held a public forum to discuss the types of questions that are likely to determine future public responses to nanoscience and nanotechnologies, and discuss what public engagement should like in the early stages of scientific development. The report concludes that for two-way public engagement to be embedded in the work of research councils, it needs to be linked to a more open discussion of research agendas in science.
