Abstract

Environment Canada and Health Canada have developed a proposal for a regulatory framework for nanomaterials under the Canadian Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999. Under the provisions of this legislation, the Ministers of the Environment and Health are required to conduct environmental and human health risk assessments and manage appropriately any risks arising from industrial chemical substances entering the Canadian market. Stakeholders from industry, non-governmental organizations, and other interested parties are invited to provide feedback on the proposed approach to developing a regulatory framework as well as to consider the options for gathering information on industrial nanomaterials as a part of the first phase.
