Abstract

The article discusses some of the problems of subdividing bioethics into numerous smaller subfields that are keyed to hot areas of science and technology, such as neuroethics or nanoethics. These include the risk of "re-inventing the bioethical wheel," the danger of inspiring cynicism in the public, and the need to distinguish what questions ethicists can answer, and what questions we cannot resolve.
