Abstract

A survey of members of the general public that sought to assess the level of understanding of basic underlying scientific concepts key to understanding nanotechnology found that while many individuals understand some facts about atoms, they are unable to conceptualize the nanoscale. Based on these results, suggestions are offered on how nanoscale scientists and engineers can more effectively present their research when engaging the public on issues of nanotechnology.
