Abstract

This paper was used to request input from the science community, industry, civil society, policy makers, media, and the general public on the drafting of the voluntary Code of Conduct for Responsible Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies Research. When completed, the code will take the form of a European Commission Recommendation and would invite member states, universities, funding organizations, researchers and other interested parties to follow its principles. The paper describes the scope and intent of the proposed Code, potential principles to be included, and the European Commission's commitment to use this code to help create an open and continuous dialogue about the ethical research of nanoscience and nanotechnologies.
