The author states that these writings currently fall into three groups - short essays that introduce nanotechnology and speculate on some of the general issues that may be raised, transhumanist literature, that looks at how technologies - including nanotechnology - could save humans for illness, aging, death and other problems, and a small number of writings that react to nanotechnology on the basis of Christian values and beliefs. The author explains these three groups of literature, and then discusses how these views of nanotechnology often focus on the long-term potential effects of this new technology while overlooking the short-term effects. Instead of reacting to sensational speculations on how nanotechnology might change our society, it would be more helpful to pay attention to discoveries and uses of nanotech that are happening now and in the near future.</style>
<issue><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">1</style></issue><custom1><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Nature Nanotechnology Web site (subscription needed to view)</style></custom1><label><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Transhumanism</style></label></record></records></xml>
