It calls for a different paradigm to be used then that called for in the NIOSH document, namely to use the precautionary principle and rather than waiting for epidemiologic studies to be done and for specific risks to be found, NIOSH should institute a broad-based screening of nanotechnology workers at the present time. This would include developing and recommending a basic medical screening protocol for the nanoparticles industry, implementing an ongoing nanoparticles toxicity review group, and developing a national nanotechnology health surveillance plan.</style></abstract><work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Open letter</style></work-type></record></records></xml>
