However, public discussions about nanotechnology have already commenced, often with participants not having a clear idea what nanotechnology is, or entering the dialogue having only heard entirely negative or entirely positive scenario of the future of nanotechnology The author examines cognitive barriers that may hinder the public's perception of nanotechnology, and suggests a set of steps designed to foster responsible public dialogue, including scientists admitting the current uncertainty level in nanotechnology research and development, formulating their public messages about nanotechnology in a way that makes the public interested in obtaining more information, and being forthcoming about research results, both positive and negative.</style></abstract><issue><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">4</style></issue><work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Journal Article</style></work-type></record></records></xml>
