This background paper looks at the uncertainties in three areas, and explores the effect these uncertainties may have on businesses. First, it looks at technical uncertainties, or our current limited understanding of how some nanoparticles behave and the related possible safety and environmental effects. Second, it looks at the social, or the public perception of nanotechnology and its possible risks. Third, it looks at its commercial, including issues of oversight, regulation, litigation, and intellectual property. The report concludes with a summary of the current views of nanotechnology held by the public, various NGO's and the media. </style>
<custom1><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">http://www.responsiblefutures.com/</style></custom1></record></records></xml>
